What is CTA funding?

The CTA is a government agency which funds post-graduate medical training.

From 2010, it is funding a pilot scheme in Accident and Medical Practice.

The funding covers all the major 'out of pocket' expenses for up to seventeen trainees for four years, including:

1) A&M Care Course fee.

2) Post Graduate Diploma of Community Emergency Medicine fees.

3) Yearly training programme fees.

Am I eligible?

Funded doctors must meet the following criteria:

1) Be accepted by AMPA into the training programme.

2) Be a graduate of a Medical School recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand.

3) Have held general registration as a medical practitioner from the Medical Council of New Zealand for at least 24 months.

4) Have two postgraduate years of basic hospital experience including runs in general medicine and general surgery.

5) Be a New Zealand Citizen or have New Zealand Residency as defined by the Department of Immigration.

6) Have been in the programme no longer than two FTE years beyond the approved programme length of four years.

7) Credentialing by (approval from) AMPA.

8) No previous CTA funding - if the CTA has already funded your training in another branch, they will not fund training in a second branch.

AMPA and the CTA will consider applications from doctors who do not meet the above criteria case-by-case.

What if I'm part way through training?

The CTA contract gives priority to new (pre-AMPEX) students. AMPA will negotiate with the CTA to apply any unused funds towards other students' training costs.

How do I apply?

If you are eligible and would like a funded training position, please do one of the following:
