Changes to the training programme

July 2010

AMPA is proposing changes to the A&M training programme from 2012.

These changes would see the A&M Care Course become compulsory, along with some DipCEM papers.

Currently the AMCC is optional and the DIPCEM compulsory.

We stress that the changes are merely proposed ones at this stage.

We hope to confirm and detail the changes (if any) by the end of this year.

We do not expect that trainees mid-way through training will have any additional requirements.

If you are a trainee and would like to discuss how these changes might affect you, please call Brenda Evitt or David Gollogly.

Improving the Delivery of Emergency Care.

Wall Street Journal item on Urgent Care

This article gives an account of the development of Urgent Care in the USA over the past 20 years and its standing. NZ Clinics have faced many of the issues covered, including relations with Emergency Medicine, and clinic accreditation.

ASEM meeting

A very productive meeting was held with ASEM after its conference. Areas of cooperation discussed included:

1) Discounted subscription for AMPA members to Emergency Medicine Australasia, jointly owned by ASEM and ACEM. EMA journal and AMPA members having access to this at an agreed AMPA rate.

2) AMPA's training for Australian community and hospital based urgent care doctors. AMPA to make attainment of Fellowship accessible to Australian doctors.

3) AMPA /ASEM have a combined conference weekend to work in with AMPA's AGM in March 2008.  Topics and lecturers to be discussed and contributions from both parties would be the best plan.  A suggested location was the Bay of Islands.

4)  Gayle to provide AMPA with details of their October Conference.  AMPA to confirm a contribution / sponsorship for this at the next Executive meeting.  AMPA to circulate notice of conference to members and put details on web site.

5) ASEM promotion of AMPA training.
