Composition
AMPA established the Accident and Medical Care course
in 1999. It prepares
students for
AMPEX, AMPA's primary
examination, leading to vocational registration in the Branch of Accident & Medical
Practice.
It is a
one-year part time course comprising forty weeks of approximately
two and a half hour weekly sessions, plus a 16-hour ACLS weekend
course and practical skills weekend.
The goal of the
course is to prepare doctors for safe practice in an Accident and
Medical environment, i.e. to:
-
Recognise, assess and provide initial management of
acute conditions to a level of competence sufficient for safe
independent practice in an A&M environment.
-
Demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitude to provide the
full range of A&M services.
